MICK NAMERARI
c1926 - 1997

Region: Kintore
Group: Pintupi

Mick was born at Marnpi in sandhill country south west of Mt. Rennie.

As a senior law man he was custodian of many Pintupi dreamings and painted stories including, Dingo, Marsupial Mouse, Two Women and Tingari. These stories covered vast areas of land referred to as “My Country”.

In Micks works titled Marsupial Mouse Dreaming, Mick created a vision of his rich and abundant country from a topographical perspective. These paintings depict his country Walukirri, south west of Kintore.

Tjuningpa Tjukurrpa - Mouse Dreaming - ceremonies are held in this area and celebrate the ancestral journey paths travelled in the Dreamtime. Shields are placed on the ceremonial ground, marking the sites where the mouse would enter and leave the earth.

These ancestral beings now live underground in this area. Mick has used the dot work to portray the various colours of flowers on which the mouse feeds as well as a map of the Walukirri area.
